Sehwag and his Record Double century 293

It was on the 2nd of Dec 2009 when the 3rd Test match between Sri Lanka and India started. It was Cricket India hero who contributed to the most of the scores, guess who, it was none other than Sehwag! It wasn’t a very difficult task for him to score double century, he was just 16 runs away from creating a record of completing his triple century on that day of the match.

After Bradman from Australia, and Hammond from England, it’s Sehwag who scored a double century of 284 in a day’s match and with this he has bagged the third place in the history of centuries.

Below is the list of most runs scored by a player in a day’s game:

Player            Runs    Team       Opposition      Ground      Match Date

DG Bradman   309      Australia   England            Leeds       11-Jul-30

WR Hammond 295     England    New Zealand   Auckland   31-Mar-33

V Sehwag       284     India          Sri Lanka        Mumbai      2-Dec-09

DCS Compton 273     England  v Pakistan       Nottingham   1-Jul-54

DG Bradman   271     Australia v England           Leeds      20-Jul-34

V Sehwag      257       India  v South Africa       Chennai  26-Mar-08

It wasn’t any easy for the Sri Lankan players to stop Sehwag from hitting centuries. It looked like they were in the battlefield fighting against Sehwag from scoring his runs. With 40 Boundary Shots and 7 over the ropes, Sehwag managed to score 293 runs. He backed by not scoring just 7 runs which would have led him to complete his triple century. It was a very good score to hit 284 runs from 239 balls on the first day of the match and 293 out of 254 balls within the second day. With this he nearly became the first Indian cricketer to score three triple hundreds before falling seven-run short of the mark.

People from India and possibly from various places may have been eagerly waiting for Sehwag to complete his 3rd triple century, but it just left all in shock when Sri Lankan Cricketer Muralitharan caught and bowled him before he could take off to 300.  It may be disappointing for Cricket india but there is always a chance and we are sure to watch this hero hitting more than triple century in test matches! However we have a list of players who were heartbroken just like Sehwag for not completing 300 runs and were out with 290’s.

Below is the list of player’s getting out with 290 runs:

Player                      Runs         Opposition       Ground    Match Date

DG Bradman (Aus)     299 v South Africa           Adelaide    29-Jan-32

MD Crowe (NZ)         299v Sri Lanka                Wellington  31-Jan-91

V Sehwag (India)      293v Sri Lanka               Mumbai (BS) 2-Dec-09

IVA Richards (WI)      291v England               The Oval      12-Aug-76
