It has been declared that the ICC Champions Trophy 2009 will have its prize money quadrupled from around $1m last time, to $4m in 2009 champions trophy. Even though west indies managed to beat Australia in a league game, Australia came out on top to win their first Champions Trophy by beating West Indies in the final.
ICC champions trophy 2009 will see some old rivals play each other. India and Pakistan will play in the same group, along with the two finalists of last champions trophy, Australia and West Indies. The other group has England, Sri Lanka, South Africa and New Zealand. In 2006 champions trophy South Africa and New Zealand were in 3rd and 4th spot. A round robin will be played between 4 teams in group and the top two from each group will advance to semi-finals.
ICC champions trophy 2009 is scheduled to be played between 22nd September and 5th October.
